Gold and Glass XVII
Ellette went into labor almost a month early. It was the middle of the night, and Terilan had to rush to get the doctor over. It was a long labor--nearly twenty-three hours. Terilan didn't let go of Ellette's hand the whole time.
After a long, exhausting day, the baby was finally born. They'd decided to name her Luna, after Ellette's sister. The doctor cleaned the baby off, then gently placed it in Ellette's arms.
"It's a boy," he said. "Congratulations, both of you."
Terilan blinked. "A boy?" He looked at the baby, who hadn't made a sound except for a quiet peep. He smiled and turned his gaze to Ellette. "A boy! We have a son!"
Ellette laughed tiredly. "We have a son."
The doctor smiled at them. "Does he have a name?"
"What do you think?" Terilan asked Ellette. "I know you were really looking forward to naming the baby after your sister. It's your choice."
"Are you sure?" Ellette looked a bit worried, but Terilan nodded. "Then..." She thought for a long time, then finally she looked down at her son. "Lukan. His name is Lukan."
