Angels and Devils XVII

After passing the first test, Lukan was given more time to focus on the academics of his training. He was much better at that than any of the combat training. With the boost to his scores, he was actually average overall.
As much as he would have loved to spend his time studying, however, that was not where he needed the most work. Most days he trained with Temerity, and most nights he trained with Usi. He learned more about his abilities, and about Usi, who it seemed was usually just as in the dark as Lukan was. Why had the Amaned Yaara sent Usi to him? Why hadn't they told Usi more? Neither of them could answer those questions.
Day after day, Lukan did his best to improve his skills. He got better slowly, and rarely noticeably. But still, his instructors congratulated him and suggested he might be graduating soon. He would have been excited if it didn't feel so wrong.
