Angels and Devils I

"Umph!" Lukan hit the ground with a loud thud. He was just happy it wasn't a crack this time. "Ow..."   "C'mon, Luke! You can do better than that!" The tiefling who'd knocked him down held out a hand. "Up you get. Let's try that again."   "I'm trying to do better, Temmy," Lukan grumbled, reaching for her hand.   Temmy took his hand, and pulled him up--and over her shoulder to toss him to the ground behind her. "Be more careful! 'else I'll kick your ass into next month."   "Yeah, yeah..." Lukan picked up his sword and faced her again.   "Try to at least land a hit," Temmy teased. She pulled out her daggers, running them against each other. "And don't hold back!"   Lukan took a deep breath, then charged at her and swung the sword. She nimbly dodged out of the way, barely having to tap him on the back to make him fall to the ground again. He tumbled, coughing up the bits of snow that made it into his mouth. As he stood up, he grit his teeth and charged her again.   "Lukan!"   He crashed to a halt at the sudden interruption and turned around, bowing stiffly. "Ah, er, Captain!"   "Aren't you two supposed to be in class?" The captain walked over to them.   "Yes, sir! Apologies!" Lukan said. "We'll head there right now!"   "You will do no such thing," the captain said sternly. "You and Temerity will return to your rooms. You may return to class tomorrow."   Lukan didn't wait for any further instruction. He ran back inside, and Temmy started to follow him before the captain grabbed her arm.   "Be careful," they said, almost quietly. "Don't drag him down with you." They let go.   She glared at them a moment, then relaxed and smiled. "Enjoy dinner, captain!" And she disappeared inside.
