Material Characteristics
Dofo cla Sufintasei (lit. stone of choosing) is a rough gemstone, as rare as Alexandrite, it shows up in two colours, a deep burgundy red, and a citrine yellow. They appear rough and cloudy, growing in clusters of 8 or ten spikes. The colour shifts from citrine near the base and deep red at the top as the chemical properties of the stone shifts along it's growth cycle.
Physical & Chemical Properties
Containing an unknown magic, the stones are warm, emitting heat even a cold room, glow fainty in low light. Their chemical breakdown is unknown, they do not react in water or other substances. These stones appear only to react against the skin of the Darovich.
Geology & Geography
Found deep under the mountains of Saedhra, they're located in old volcanic tubes near sections of the Màˆda-bacs Tsilifhi. It's thought the magic from the network is bleeding along ancient lines. Saedra's the most prolific, it is believed that other mountain ranges with entrances to the network have their own veins of stone but so far excation near the network is dangerous and to to undertake.
Life & Expiration
The stones are reliable and amazingly stable even after they've been cut from the bedrock and shaped. The magic is inherent in the stone and doesn't appear to disapate the further from the centre they spread.
History & Usage
History
The stones have been used for the last several thousand years to help assist in the settling of presenting sexual charactistics of the Darovich. In the beginning these stones were used across the board, each darovich on the day of their choosing would pick a stone to announce their intention to the rest of their community. As time progressed and the culture shifted there are those who choose not to use the stones and they have become more of a choice depending on the religious tendencies of the Darovich community in question.
Cultural Significance and Usage
The stones are only used by the Darovich. To every other species for reasons unknown they are an inert if pretty stone. To the Darovich they are used solely to affect the physical and biological changes necessary for a complete transition. The stones are introduced just prior to puberty, and pressed against the skin of the individual Darovich in the location of their choosing. The stone melds into the skin, and the magic within the stone will create the necessary changes to complete a biological transition.
