High Council of Andrala

Structure

The High Council of Andrala consists of 6 councillors. These individuals are nobles and have the full standing and rights of someone with said prestige. The council is a diplomatic organization with the aim to decide communally what is best for Andrala and, by extension, Elfries . They work directly under the lord of Andrala who themselves works under the Baron of Esmadar who again works under the Count of Elfries . All of which lands within the authority of the Duke of Meseline.

Public Agenda

The Council's fidelity and consistant continuation rests on their ability to make the city better; under imperial rule, people who do not do what they have promised incur a poor fate. The percieved benefit of a council running th e city is twofold: firstly, having six people to decide on courtly matters ensures that the action isn't motivated by selfish greed. Secondly, Andrala is a big city and having one person control the entirety of it would be absolute chaos. The combined force of the council is capable of keeping far more control than an individual ruler.

These councillors are diplomaticaly elected by Andralan citizens through balloting at the Grand Cathedral. The elected individuals have a 2 year term before they are de-instated. They can still, however, run for the position again an indefinite number of times.

History

The High Council was originally set up and run by Velia when the city had expanded to the point where the Infeld royal family and the one Velian Earl that was present couldn't keep full control of the city during its rapid expansion. When the empire invaded, the council was overthrown. They were the first to be slain by the hands of Viceroy Pearl es Lowvire and Margrave Thelam Eldrich when they and their troops stormed the palace during the siege of Andrala.
Afterword, the imperials saw why they were installed and committed the resources to fill the positions through election. This method of democracy, while percieved a kind and courteous decision from the eyes of the Velian Andralan's was actually motivated by the lack of control that the imperials had over Andrala. Riots were common in the early days of the Imperial occupation of the city and the empire quelled that by acting diplomatic.
