Taevash Character in Evermore | World Anvil

Taevash

School was hard again today. It wasn't so much the studies, but how did these other kids make having friends look so easy? Taevash had aquaintences growing up. but they all seemed to move on or lose interest in spending time with him. Perhaps that was it. He just wasn't interesting. He felt the soothing calm from his Quori spirit, trying to ease his mind and as most times, it worked. Vash had always been there. a reminder of who and what he was. Kalashtar. The Dream People. A spirit from the world of dreams tied forever to his life. A constant friend, if one could call it that. A comforting presence.   As Taevash approached the shop that his father owned, the worries of the school day quickly faded and a smile came to his face. Working with his dad had always made him feel better. The Padded Bottom had sat nestled in the shop district his entire life. He knew all the other crafters and shop owners and his family had a great reputation here. As he opened the door the light bell tinkled and he could here the gently whir or the sewing machine from the back. "It's me dad!" he called out. "Perfect timing! Bring me back some of the welting for the Shimri order." It was just like his father to not bring enough back. Taevash suspected sometimes that he did it on purpose to give him something to do when he got home. Not that he minded. He found the welting and gathered it up and with some extra fabric and took it back, swinging by the kitchen to grab a round of bread to share with Kovash who wouldn't eat during the day if not reminded.   The chair was near completion. Taevash gently set down the missing materials and broke off half the bread and handed it to his dad. "The chairs looking great Dad, it looks like Raegar did good work on the wood. Belinda must have been keeping him out of the pub this week." A gentle laugh was shared as the two ate the bread.   DIDDING DIng. The front bell. Taevash finished his bread and took a seat at the machine and began to intergrate the last of the materials as his father went upfront to deal with the customer. His dad stepped outside and was gone long enough for Taevash to finish the project and get it wrapped for Master Shimri. Just as he placed it on the outgoing shelf. he heard the bell again and his dad coming back in. CRASH. SHUFFLE. "Taevash, Clear the till!"   He had never heard such fear in his fathers voice. He sprang into action without even a second thought. He half tripped making his way to the area of the shop where his dad kept all the money for transactions. Most were IOUs and trade agreements, but there were a few gold in the box as well. He gathered it dutifully and put the coins in a satchel and the documents into a leather wrapped briefcase. By the time he finished, his dad was throwing Taevash's clothes into a backpack and threw it to his son. "Put the coins in the bag and grab some travel rations. Don't dawdle now. We don't have time. Taevash...this is important." He reached behind his neck and undid the small rope that always hung around his neck. His mother had given his dad that crystal. That's all he really knew. In an instant, the necklace was pushed into his hand and Taevash was being pushed out of the door. DIiiiding Ding.   Kovash turned him and pulled him in tight for a hug that the boy wasn't expecting. His dad had never shyed away from affection but Taevash had never felt such urgency. "Taevash, I need you to go to the dock. Find a goblin named Riki. Do whatever he says. I'll be behind you as soon as I can. Don't dawdle now!" and with a gentle push he was off. "Son, I love you" was the last thing he heard from his dad. As Taevash approached the dock, the goblin wasnt hard to find. He did as he dad had instructed and made his way to the small creature.   The dock bells rang ominously...
