Unicora

Unicora: home of the Empi, land of the Empire and a place of wonder and adventure. Unicora is one of Everim's five greatlands and the largest of them all. It is described as a near temperate paradise from top to bottom. Unicora is home to soft grass fields, rolling hillsides, towering mountain ranges, glassy lakes, winding rivers and chilly northern snow regions. Here are found the Empi people; Emperals to the north and central regions and the Infarels to the south. This large greatland has been subject to many wars and political transformations over its long history. For thousands of years the Empi tribes warred against each other over the vast plains and deep forests. However, it wasn't until the daring raids lead by greedy tribesmen along the gulfs of the greatland of Phantinia where the true destiny of Unicora would be realized. The Phantinian Empire's Second Campaign was as a lightening strike from Heaven that rocked the unprepared Empi tribes. The Phantinains were far and away more advanced in their knowledge of shard based magic and used it to full effectiveness in subduing Unicora. Tried as they might, both the Emperals and Infarels knew defeat was inevitable and eventually surrendered. Under their new masters, the Empi were fully integrated into the booming Phantinian Golden Empire and joined them in conquering the vast majority of Everim's lands. Unicora was the breadbasket and main pillar of support that drove the Phantinain war machine forward. However, peace between the Empi and the Phantinains wouldn't last forever. Dangerous criminals managed to escape a high security Phantinian prison deep in the Heartlands of Unicora. In an act of unprecedented cruelty, the city that housed the prison was raised to the ground with the entire population slaughtered to prevent the convicts' escape. Word of the massacre spread across Everim and sparked a righteous fury among the Empi warriors in the Phantinian armies. All over the world, Phantinian and Empi warriors fought in a bitter civil war that brought centuries of cultural, religious and racial divergence between them to a violent and bloody climax. The strain of this war was too much for Phantinia to manage. The Golden Empire disappeared within a couple of decades of rebellion and civil strife and Unicora was, for the first time, united as Empi alone. The Empi, however, were not satisfied with merely freeing themselves from Phantinian rule. The most decorated Empi general, Ereini Shanai, united the greatland under the single cause of reuniting the old empire under Empi rule which they nearly achieved over the next centuries reconquering lands across Everim. The Imperial Empire of Unicora, though lacking the full size of the Golden Empire, was regarded as the most powerful and enduring order in history. History would unfortunately repeat itself when the third Emperor of Unicora would fall to an assassin's blade and plunge the Empire into the civil war known as the War of Succession. This war would bring the Empi to their knees as it did their former masters and the Empire was reduced to a handful of distant island colonies and the central and northern regions of Unicora with the Infarels declaring independence and establishing their own southern kingdoms.
