Nelania

"Here in the broken lands, all forms of rule have been tried. Every island and every tribe of people wish to be their own."   Nelania is perhaps the strangest of all places on Everim.   One of the six greatlands of the world, Nelania is mostly comprised of large islands attached to one another by very narrow, interconnecting land bridges. No one is precisely sure how this came to be. Some theories say the bridges were artificially created by the original Inbetwers thousands of years ago to eliminate the need for sea travel between the islands. Others say that Nelania was once a single landmass, but some type of geographical calamity struck the greatland sinking half the continent.   Another oddity of Nelania are the seas and lakes in between the islands. For some reason, sea travel between them is impossible outside of going a couple miles off shore and sailing around. Every ship that has attempted to cross the lakes has sunk. No matter the size of the ship, it will eventually sink for no explicable reason. The waters of Nelania eat ships and sailors as if they're alive and there has never been an answer to why this occurs. This reality lends evidence to the land bridges' function to connect the islands together to traverse these hostile seas.   Whatever the answer may be, the geography here suits the Nelanians perfectly. Many of the islands are nations unto themselves while others absorbed into the territory of larger powers. Some are kingdoms, empires, republics, democracies, autocracies, dictatorships and perhaps some other new and unique form of government not yet known outside Nelania. The politics here are convoluted and complicated with island nations having many treaties and alliances with one another against other unions. Some of the land bridges have been blockaded for decades or even hundreds of years due to deep feuds between them.   Nelania is home mostly to the Inbetwers that migrated from Aramana who did not join their essences with that of the wildlife of the greatland. When this event occurred a major split happened between those who participated in the joining and those who did not. Most of those who refused had traveled south to the Grand Peninsula and settled many villages there. Then many more of them built ships and traveled further south to the mystical and unsettled lands of Nelania. The histories from this point are very murky as we still do not know how precisely these migrants dived up their lands or what conflicts arose to produce the many nations that Nelania contains today. However, as it stands this day, the powers of Nelania may be complicated, but they cannot be ignored as many strong kingdoms and empires lay in wait.

Geography

Nelania is the most peculiar greatland on Everim being made entirely of islands connected by narrow land bridges. In between them are seas and lakes that swallow up any ship that attempts to cross. There have been discovered certain "save zones" where ships can sail the waters to reach one or two small islands, but the deeper waters in within Nelania are known to gobble any floating craft foolish enough to cross into its domain.

Fauna & Flora

Nelania's islands being so isolated from one another has made each one particularly unique in the kinds of trees, plants, shrubs and crops that grow there.
