Beorn (/bjɔːrn/)

Beorn, known by the epithet Prince of Zenith, is the member of the Preh'n who created the world of Khthon, and is the ancestor of the Beornic races. After creating the world his primordial wife Lailah was formed from his shadow, but she was seduced by Lothracha, and gave birth to Zshatlalote. Beorn cast her out into the Outnadir and wept, his tears falling to the ground and making mud. The Sunless Flowers below sank into the mud, and the Najan emerged. Beorn saw one of them was beautiful, and took her as a second wife, calling her Mani. By her he fathered the Three Princes: Amellion, Barsabbas, and Gamaliel. After Lothracha and Zshatlalote ambushed him at the banks of the East Sea, he tricked Lothracha with Zshatlalote's help in the Drowning of Beorn, whereby Beorn agreed to let Lothracha kill him in exchange for an oath to never harm a child of Beorn. The sea where he had been drowned turned red as blood, becoming known as the Blood Sea, and those descended from him thirsted for water from that day. After his death, the world began to collapse, and was propped up by the unholy acts of the Eldest and Youngest Princes, until Zshatlalote again meddled to bring about Daystar Surya and Nightstar Mona, whose rule sustains the Firmament.   He was widely worshiped by the Beornic Races, despite his death; it was commonly thought that his spirit is diffused throughout the world and in his descendants. After the rise of the Abashite religion, Beorn came to be seen as a righteous ancestor, but not a deity to be worshiped. With the rise of Emuna, Beorn once again became venerated, although as a resurrected patron subordinate to Keter Heliand and Lord Abbas. In Semelism Beorn is thought to be the same person as Keter Heliand; while in Monism Beorn is thought to be Lord Abbas, and is conceived of as evil.

Divine Domains

Beorn is considered the patron of the Beornic races, of fathers, sacrificial offerings, and of marriage and divorce.   In the old, pre-Abashite cult (still practiced in some places) Beorn was also considered the patron of agriculture, and of metallurgy.

Holy Books & Codes

The primary written source describing the life and death of Beorn is the Aldjangita; the first book of the Canon. The Aldjangita is believed to represent a redaction or transcription of the existing myths surrounding Beorn, and most probably reflects pre-Abashite beliefs. The Aldjangita is accepted as canonical scriptures by Abashitism, Emuna, and Semelism.   Monist beliefs about Beorn are informed by the Book of Mon, which is the sole scripture of the religion.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

The symbols of Beorn have been consistent across time, even after the rise of Abashism and later Emuna, and are:   1. A naked man bound to an anchor stuggling.
2. A faceless and sexless masculine figure standing upright, his right hand raised and palm facing upwards, with his left hand on the head of a much shorter (but clearly adult) naked woman (taken to be Mani).
3. A faceless naked man seated on a throne, wearing a crown with three peaks, spaced evenly over the circumference of the head.
The most common depiction of Beorn is from the Drowning of Beorn, an event which has sacrificial value in Abashism and pre-Abashite cults, and takes on soteriological meaning in Emuna.
