The Eladrin & Dragonborn

THE ELADRIN

These were the first of Eulara’s sentient peoples - ageless, beautiful and magically gifted beyond compare to the world of today. They lived for many ages alongside the Forgotten’s children in the Dragon Vale in peace, sharing the perfect world their creators had gifted unto them. As the first incarnation of the Elves, the Gods made the Eladrin more into their own likeness. They had a thirst for creation and to rule - not with malice but out of an innate desire to be as shepherds over others. The cities and works of art they shaped would bring tears to any mortal eyes today if they could have seen it then. Yet this golden age was not enough for many. As the years passed, relations became strained between the Eladrin and metallic dragons. The Eladrin coveted the dragon's strength and command over the skies, and increasingly tried to exert their will over them. “Fly us here - take us there - use your breath to help us create this or that.” At first, it was harmless, and out of friendship, the dragons complied. Eventually, as these requests began to sound more and more like commands, the dragons became distant, visiting the Eladrin cities less and less. They still cared for their Eladrin brothers and sisters, but would not abide by that treatment. As if the Eladrin weren’t already feeling slighted enough, the Gods decided to create all the other races, including those of the Elves we still have today, perhaps fearing that they had put too much of themselves into the Eladrin and desiring to try again. The Eladrin became jealous. Weren’t they enough for the Gods?

THE BIRTH OF THE DRAGONBORN

The Unspoken’s creation of the evil races was the last straw for the Eladrin. Eulara seemed to be plunged into complete chaos and in need of a guiding hand, yet the Gods had become silent after the fall of two of their own, retreated as they were to their own Realms to simply let events fold for a time. The Eladrin believed it was left to them as the Eldest children to restore order, yet they were severely outnumbered. The younger races seemed to multiply and spend their lives in a flash compared to the immortal Eladrin. Thus, they beseeched the metallic dragons for aid to no avail. Even forgetting the tense relationship they had, the metallic dragons were entirely too busy fighting a war against the monstrosities they suddenly had to share the skies with. Too busy even to notice, on either the metallic or chromatic side, that some of their precious eggs had gone missing.   Some of the Eladrin had become convinced that the only way to fix their world was to build an army of their own to command - and by build they meant to create, as the Gods had once created themselves. However, no one but Gods had the power to create life out of nothing. In search of the secrets to this unattainable power, or something as close to it as possible, many Eladrin had dedicated their entire lives. The stolen dragon eggs became the height of their magical experimentation - a way to both restore peace for all and secure their place as the inheritors of Eulara. The Eladrin succeeded, and the first of the mighty, humanoid Dragonborn were hatched. Unfortunately for the Eladrin, just like the dragons they shared a likeness to and as a fully sentient people of free-will, they would not be commanded so easily. The Eladrin fully expected absolute adoration and obedience from their creations. They would be looked up to as Gods, the Dragonborn forever grateful for the lives they now had. The truth, however, was far different.   The first generation of Dragonborn were a sad people. They constantly looked to the skies, wishing they could soar among it as the true dragons did. Being born without wings, this of course was impossible, and they resented the Eladrin for it. To be as close to the sky as they could, the Dragonborn eventually forsook their lives in the Dragon Vale to move high up into the Udoxan Mountains.

THE DEPARTURE OF THE ELADRIN

The Eladrin’s troubles did not end when the Dragonborn abandoned them. Their time waned and retreated as the other races continued to grow more populous. Eventually, the Gods came to realize they just did not fit into the world Eulara had become anymore, and as their first children took pity on them. The Eladrin were suddenly whisked away into their own Astral Plane where they remain today. The rest of Eulara’s people were made to forget they ever even existed, with the remains of the Eladrin cities a mystery to all.
