A Character's Backstory is the result of their Sophont, Provenance, Banner, and Mantle. A Player creates their Character's Backstory during creation.
Your Sophont represents the unique features of your physiology. It confers your starting Attributes and, typically, a starting ability or two.
A Provenance is the backdrop of a character's upbringing. It contextualizes their outlook on life, and their approach to overcoming obstacles, by revealing the circumstances of their upbringing.
A Banner is a sociopolitical power, ranging from gangs in a city to intergalactic powers, and represents the society and norms enclosed within.
Your Mantle represents how you succeed or survive in the world. Mantles are a reflection of a character's capability and a player's playstyle, and marry them together.
Scale is a measure of how difficult an object is to carry or throw, and a measure of how large a character is.
Attributes are the major physical and mental traits which every Ethnis Lite Character has. They are used as passive measures rather than for Checks, and can be leveled up using Plot Points. The upper limit for any attribute is 5 + your Sophont's bonus.
