Aempian Stiletto Item in Ethnis | World Anvil

Aempian Stiletto

Aempian Stilettos were a popular blade made in the Aempian Prefecture during the Valuser'ran Supremacy of Jhoutai. Their primary use was as dueling daggers, but during the Aempian overthrow of Valuser'rh became a symbol of independence as they became the favored weapons of Aempian assassins and revolutionaries.

Construction

Aempian Stilettos have an 18 inch blade with a slight wedge shape to the blade. One side of the blade is made for parrying, the other for cutting, and the tip is pointed, slanted, and reinforced for the express purpose of penetrating light armor on a thrust. On the bladed side the crossguard curves down over the fingers to protect them, while on the blocking side it curves up into a sword catcher and breaker.

Fighting Style

Aempian Stilettos can be wielded with one hand or both. Single-handed they are used as a parrying dagger (edge inwards) or weapon (edge outwards). When dueling, the fighter wears a glove on their offhand, and holds onto the blade as well, holding the edge inwards while on a defensive stance and flipping it out when going on the offensive. There are many popular styling to this, such as reverse grip, and part of the sport is often in developing new styles of fighting to bewilder opponents.

Pragmatic. Lethal. Logical. Aempian.

— Prefect Azaki Khandea
