Attributes are the major physical and mental traits which every Ethnis Lite Character has. They are used as passive measures rather than for Checks, and can be leveled up using Plot Points. In Ethnis Lite, the upper limit for any attribute is 5 + your Sophont's bonus.
This page is intended mostly for those who are becoming an E.LITE Setting, but can be a helpful reference for Narrators and Players as well.
Upper Body Strength (UBS)
A measure of the strength of a your back, arms, neck, upper torso, and core.
UBS factors into base damage dealt via weapons or punches, how much you can carry overall, how heavy of an item you can wield, and how much stamina you have.
Skills which may factor UBS into their outcome include: punching, paddling, grappling, rowing, weaponry, guarding, shielding, and hurling.
Lower Body Strength (LBS)
A measure of the strength of a your back, legs, thighs, lower torso, and core.
LBS factors into base damage dealt via kicks, how much you can carry overall, and how much stamina you have.
Skills which may factor LBS into their outcome include: kicking, leaping, and acrobatics.
A measure of the durability of your bones and skin, and your ability to endure punishment, pain, discomfort, numbness, and so forth.
VIT factors into your base damage resistance.
Skills which may factor VIT into their outcome include: guarding, armor, toughness, disease resist, and environmental resistance.
A measure of your reaction speed. How quickly your mind registers and reacts to important stimuli.
RFX affects your turn order, and allows you to React to events and traps when they happen.
Skills which may factor RFX into their outcome include: ballistics, piloting, riding, and sleight-of-hand.
A measure of your recollection, ability to spot oddities in your environment, and how quickly you put together details.
PER passively determines what you notice about your environment. Ethnis Lite does not have spot checks, as it is assumed your character is generally observing their surroundings already. Your PER is either high enough to notice something or it is not.
Skills which may factor PER into their outcome include: investigation, academics, knowledge, linguistics.
A measure of your emotional health and how much stress you can handle before having an emotional breakdown. It also indirectly reflects emotion acuity and artistry.
NRV factors into how much Sanity you have.
Skills which may factor NRV into their outcome include: charm, sense motive, and empathy.
The black sheep of the Attributes
Vancian, Ritualistic, Functional.
Every setting handles magic differently. While we may later create modules for different kinds of magic, but for now will instead overview how you can integrate your magic into Ethnis Lite.
If your setting doesn't
have magic, you can simply set MTP to 0 on all character sheets and do nothing with it, nothing will break.
If your setting does
have magic, we suggest using MTP as one of the following:
• Max Mana
• Max Spell Level
• Spell Slots
• Favor with Gods
• Psionic Acuity
When designing skills for your setting include the schools of spellcasting that can be done, such as Thaumaturgy, Bending, Conjuration.
