Hospitalier's Bow

The Hospitalier's Bow is the most important part of a Hospitalier's uniform. It is a silken cloth embroidered with the marking of their rank and status within the organization.

Any foreigner or local may pull a Hospitalier aside and ask them for help.

As soon as we stepped off the ship the Hospitaliers were there, distinct in their fashionable, conservative clothing and their embroidered bows. Some wore them around their throats like a bowtie, while those with long hair used them to tie their hair up into a sleek ponytail.

Marks of Office

Chevrons: Each chevron on the bow represents another rank in the organization, thus representing how critical of a call a Hospitalier is authorized to make. They earn this through a combination of experience and training. Each chevron is added by giving the Hospitalier a longer ribbon, so bowties become ties and ponytail ties are draped forwards over the shoulder and down the chest as a sort of headdress.

Colors: The color of a bow represents the district of the Hospitalier. Each district has its own flag, and the ribbon used for the extended chevrons of the bow are made to match the district of the Hospitalier. This is more as a matter of pride than anything, as a Hospitalier can act within any district.

Brooch: The bow is fastened with a brooch that represents their primary focus. Some can help more with social issues, some work better as guides, some are more focused on law, and so forth. The image on the brooch will be a symbol matching this focus, such as a mountain for gruides, a book for law, or an information bubble for technology help.

I got my bow today! I'm officially a member of the Hospitaliers! Years of training and practice in the cadets to get to this moment, and my heart is swollen with pride.
