Helyk

The Verin built the Helyk for an obtuse and specific purpose: to while their lives away making the Verin cities beautiful by way of stunning mosaics, intricate stonework, massive tapestries, and other such crafts. For this task they bestowed the Helyk with great patience, a gentle demeanor, a creative mind, sharp eyes, and deft hands.   When the Sazashi Revolution came, the Helyk were barely noticed. Despite their calm nature, they did hate their lot, especially because the Verin expressly forbade them from putting any personalization into their work unless it was in reverence to them, but they did not express as much in the same, openly violent ways that the other Sazashi did. Instead, they put their crafting skills to use, taking advantage of the confusion of the time and their preternatural perception of art to weave subliminal anti-Haimarchy messages into their work, and later one to build elaborate traps around the cities to snare or kill Verin soldiers and officials.   The Revolution was not the only time in history they waged such warfare. Typically their wars have been entangled-with and hidden-by the wars of others; they call these Silent Wars, because they have been so clandestine and passive aggressive that you'll find almost no reference to them in common historical records.   At their finest, Helyk are patient and observant, taking advantage of the general misunderstanding of their natures to operate behind the scenes, pulling the strings and laying the field with subliminal messages all working towards their goal.   At their worst, Helyk are manipulative and gluttonous, seeding a populace with negative emotions and intent and reaping the discomfort of discord to their own personal gain.   Helyk are the race to play if you enjoy playing the long con, or if you like always having the craft skills handy to make tools of survival and trapping.

Beliefs

Helyk conduct religion as they conduct themselves: in a relaxed manner. Though they're nearly as strong of opinion as most you would be hard pressed to find a screaming zealot among them. They do not worship so much as hold in reverence, looking up to the subjects of their religion as things to aspire to be rather than bow to.   They typically believe in the Wheel as a facilitator of the universe rather than its creator, and see Ubast and the Pantheon as powerful beings who earned their position by self mastery. More than anything else they view the Anima as sacred and have a particular fascination for it probably because their artistic inclination allows them to see it more consistently than any other race.

Basic Information

Anatomy & Morphology

Appearance

The Helyk have angled features and long, luxurious white fur. Their tails are long and powerful, banded black or grey from the midpoint to tip, and end in a fin-like brush. They have dark-tipped tufts of fur along their arms and calves which resemble the fetlocks of a horse. Their manes are among the longest of all Sazashi, growing in thickest around their head and becoming shorter as it runs down their back before terminating halfway down their abdomen.   Their Verin designed them with pastel eye colors.
