Essara

Essara is Josan's wife and the previous Queen of Bones.

  Shortly after the death of her children and the grief that took her husband, Essara threw all of herself into the care of the city. It was she and Sellinus who introduced Mar'rianian beliefs to Gorshi to make use of the recently departed as skeletal guardians against the growing horde of ghosts.

  Each of the three were given a job, Josan was to bind the spirits to their bones, Sellinus was to learn how to keep the people alive and from dispair, and Essara was to control the guardian skeletons each night to protect the city.

  As time passed her love for her husband and her life dwindled until, confident the men could carry on without her, she took her own life. However, such as it is on Saumai, what is dead may never rest. Josan bound her soul to her bones, and there she stayed, helping to control the guardians even after death.

A figure sat on the throne, hunched and narrow, features hidden in sullied white robes and veils. Before her stood a pair of skeleton guards dressed in scuffed black robes and uniforms. Their heads, like those of the skeletons above, were bound in black cord.

<You are not welcome here> the two spoke in tandem, lowering his halberds in his direction.

<Return to the surface>

"It's too late to say that now; you or one of your minions dragged me down here. If you answer some questions we can make this easier for both of us." he snarled with contempt though the scent would have forced the same expression on his face.

The figure at the back of the room looked up slowly. Their head was too wrapped up in veils to see their face, but there was no doubt by the way that the cloth hung that their were either emaciated or dead.

"Provide an alternative way to to leave this place, answer some questions, or I'll cut and burn my way through your realm till I find your master." His tone softened "I want to leave this place and find my friends."

The link that probed gently at him felt feminine in nature.<I am sorry for what he has done, for what harm has come of you. These servants know nothing but...> The spine-rattling equivalent of a mental choke resonated over the mindlink, as though they were fighting for breath. <...but do not kill them, they are needed, and so is the King.> Another gasp. <Continue further on into the realm. There are paths to the surface if you know what to look for. Seek this sigil...> Her head slumped forward as she gasped again, and the image of a 6-fingered runic hand print flickered through his thoughts.
