Ethias: The Basics
Ethias
Expansive and grand, like that of a tree that has endured ages, Ethias is an Epic Fantasy world that knows no limits, growing deep and and far reaching, where all the stories are connected in one way shape or form. Whether it be from a simple character cameo or an interwoven global plot line that expands multiple nations and dozens of characters. A world of magic first and foremost, there are many detailed and intricate, yet probably familiar features to the system of magic that exists within Ethias. As well as the variety of types, whether it be elemental, spellcasting, enchanting, necromancy or healing. While the magic is incredible in many regards, Ethias falls short in another category. That is, with its technology. Though throughout the ages, they have developed technology similar to what exists on Earth, and by the Fourth Age, its people were able to somewhat match ours, with unusual enchanted crystals. It is overall set in a medieval-type setting, with just a few modern conveniences, which includes stoves, indoor plumbing and their own spin on electricity. The people of Ethias are diverse as well, far more than most other worlds. Instead of just being two or three races of people at most, there are roughly, around nine races of people, (13 if you count Angels, Demons, Elementals and Spirits as their own beings.) Though you could technically say that there are actually eight, considering one of the nine is technically a mixed race as well. These races include many familiar faces that fans of fantasy may recognize too, and others that they may not recognize or have rarely been seen in Epic Fantasy as a true sapient, core, integral part of the world. These races include: Dragons--Walks upright, can have a rainbow of different scale colors. Comes in four different "flavors" (species), and is roughly about human size. Can range anywhere from 5-12 feet in height. Depending on the dragon. (Can imagine these guys are imposing) Elves--A familiar and quite popular race commonly seen in Fantasy, and they are quite Tolkien-esque, being decently attractive in some cases, can't die from age and the best part? They come in four different "flavors". (Which will be for another article.) Animeleists(Pronounced Anime lee ists)--Bet you're wondering what these guys are? Well, guess what? This is the catch-all name I use for Animal People and Demi-human animals. However, this name exclusively applies to mammals. They too come in a variety of flavors and colors too. Much like dragons. Most common though: Wolves, Foxes, Felines (Lions, Tigers, etc.) Phoenixes--AH! Bet you were wondering how I would fit this in? Shouldn't they be considered Animeleists you ask? NOT AT ALL! They are an entirely different thing. Yes, they do technically fall under the same category, but they are exclusively flight-capable compared to their cousins. They're roughly based off of an anthropomorphized variation of Phoenixes, but with various Avian appearances. In the past, they were once referred to as Avian Animeleists, but that changed after the rebirth cycle was discovered. They are immortal, but must undergo a ritual to restore themselves. So it's a choice whether they revive or not. (More info will be revealed later) Reptilians--A close relative of the dragons, but they aren't dragons. In fact, they have difficulty, if outright lacking the ability to utilize magic. I do believe their names are pretty self-explanatory in what they are. They're the Reptile Animeleists. As well, Dragons, in some manner, originated from these guys on Ethias. Humans--Yes, they exist. What particularly sets them apart compared to the other races is, their sheer versatility and their options. (As well, they can live longer than they do on Earth. 300-400+ years). They even have the option of whether they want magic or not in most cases. There is a deadline for the choice however and there is only one way to have said choice changed, but I'm not revealing that here. Dwarves--Ahh, the short, bearded craftsmen we all know and love. They are pretty self-explanatory. Unless you want to hear about how sometimes Dwarven women have beards. Do you? Probably not I figure. Gigantos--Like dwarves, but in reverse. These guys are HUGE, they're essentially Giants. Though they are a bit human-like. However they do not stop growing as they grow older. And their height can even get above twenty feet. They are physically, the largest race without the use of magic. Elf-Dragons--Now, this is where we get into a bit of a gray area. Elf-Dragons, since the first age, originally started off as a mixed race, but they gained their own standing in the world. It is debated whether or not however, that they are indeed a full and true race because of this. They fought pretty hard against it though. And what sets them apart from Elves and Dragons is, they tend to be stronger in many regards as in history, when they first surfaced, they were feared. However, the secrets of these, will have to, again, wait for another article. That's all of the major races. Demons, Angels, Spirits and Elementals will be covered in another time, but I believe what sets Ethias apart from other fantasy worlds, is in particular, the diversity in the world, the interconnected nature of the world in general as well as the fact that the dragons...the dragons are even better. I won't say how, but I'll just say, from what I've seen, Ethias' use of dragons must be one of the rarest mode of use ever. Until next time, ~Aduro TriRemove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
