Running quickly down the dark wooded path, the fifteen year old girl flew as quickly as she could to the secluded hut, she was late for her lessons, Sir Kendrik wasn't going to be happy. Nearing the clearing in which the hut had been built long ago, she sensed something was wrong, she slowed to a stealthy walk. At her first sight of the hovel, she gasped, the place had been ransacked then burned. Where was Sir Kendrik? Surely he must have escaped! But what she saw next tore away all hope. The old man's body lay on the ground, with a pool of blood beneath his head. Turning her head away, she stifled a sob. This man had been her dearest friend, and seeing his strong, lithe body laying there so helpless was overwhelming for the young woman. Hearing a twig snap to her left, she spun, simultaneously drawing her sword. "Tigris!" she exclaimed.The bobcat slunk towards her and rubbed against her leg, begging to be petted, she willingly obliged. Then mustering up all the courage in her she stepped into the clearing, and walked shakily towards the body. Feeling for a pulse she realized that Kendrik was indeed dead, and had been for a long time. Who was the mysterious man of many secrets? And who had killed him? At that moment, she resolved to bring this barbarous act to justice.

Merida has lived on a country estate her whole life, being an only child she was pampered when she was young. Both her parents saw fit to have her educated by a private tutor, unusual for her time, woman nearly never had that type of schooling. She has a knowledge of arms, having had secret lessons from an expert since she was ten.
