Thunderground Class Cruiser
The Thunderground was designed as a one-off experiment on the viability of heavier classes of spaceship, featuring more numerous and deadly armament compared to previous Destroyer designs, whilst maintaining an above average acceleration and range.
There was little structural differences between the Hades and the Thunderground, with the latter simply being on a larger scale. One major difference was the implementation of the MAG1 sensors which were not possible to fit on a ship of Hades' size.
Main armament was 4 tubes of Mark 6-UP Nuclear Torpedoes, the first Phase-II weapons, which were roughly 2.3 times larger than the Mark 5. It carried 16 spare weapons in a central compartment. It also carried 8 tubes for P-I(Mark 5, 7,8, and 10) sized weapons, which were for use against 'soft' targets smaller than itself. It carried 32 spare P-I weapons.
Three months into the Orion war she was refitted. Her armament kept the 8 and 32 P-I torpedoes, but replaced the 4 P-IIs with a single P-III launcher and 3 spare weapons. Its armour was up from previous vessels at 3000mm of ceramic composite, and had similarly thick internal bulkheads fore and aft of the tubes to compartmentalise damage. Active defences were 21 PD lasers positioned fore, aft, and along the beam. Propulsion was the tried and tested Xenon Motors like the Hades, allowing 5G under emergency power. Jump-drive was identical, spooling in 10 hours. Thunderground was the only ship of her class commissioned. She would participate in the opening phases of the Orion war before being refitted, whereupon she would be the sole provider of surface bombardment for the 5th Fleet. She was destroyed comprehensively by a single P-III torpedo from the captured Planetcracker Invictum Perseus during the battle.
