Psiloi Class Cruiser

A true ship of the line, the Psiloi built upon the previous Thunderground and ran with it. The original ship, the Psiloi, was armed with a staggering amount of firepower 24 Phase-II tubes in four banks, port, starboard, keel, and dorsal. It had another 72 spare weapons centrally located. 48 additional mark 5 tubes were also fitted around the P-II systems with another 144 spares. Its size skyrocketed to 1500 from bow to stern, and 500 metres radially. Its armour again was drastically improved, going from 3000mm effective of ceramic composite to ceramic composite comparable to 10m of steel. In addition there were increases to her close-in weapons systems and targeting systems.   The Psiloi was the first true thoroughbred of the Sumnian Navy, designed to engage and be engaged by multiple vessels without duress. In this role it would prove amply capable, frequently disengaging only after having run dry of weapons.   Propulsion proved to be an issue for a vessel of such size, requiring 7 Xenon motors and 2 reactors to power them, and even then only reaching 2G at maximum acceleration. Its jump drive, as always, could spool within 10 hours.   Psiloi class ships were originally requested in small numbers, initially a run of twenty vessels, however with the failure of the other medium cruiser prototype, the Yggdrasil, another 50 vessels were ordered. Again and again more ships were commissioned, with the final count of Psiloi class vessels being 240.   Such vessels would serve with distinction such as the vessel Hoplite and Pterotopedes scoring a combined 300 ship-kills during the battle of Sigma-Tarses.   One surviving example, When In Doubt, is kept in the Burlington Shipyard, it takes part in the Unification day Celebrations. The remaining 104 survivors of the Orion War were left in a mothball orbit around Krios.
