Atlantis City

Atlantis City is the capital of the World of Atlantis, being both the only city with a sizeable population, and perfectly situated to receive dropship traffic. Its economy revolves around tourism and sales of the local delicacies to the rich.

The city is divided by different rings of housing and by different sectors of work in the outer ring. The highest ring at the summit of the city is the most expensive, possessing homes for the super-rich and hotels, with lower wage workers living progressively down the rings and the island itself. Northern sectors of the city are primarily used for food production and storage, with large areas turned over to algae, mycoprotein, and fish farming. Larger specimens are provided by trawlers docked to the edge of the ring. The south of the city is a 20 square kilometre flat concrete field used as a landing pad for all incoming dropship traffic. The eastern edge of the city has a couple of docks for large cruise vessels for those planning to take a slower mode of transport.

Demographics

There are roughly 500,000 lower and middle class inhabitants, and 250,000 upper class inhabitants. This skew is caused by the outsourcing of a large proportion of food production to other settlements on and off-world. There are at any given time up to 250,000 tourists.

Government

The planetary government is a direct democracy, with proposals put for by a parliament of elected officials. The Mayor is elected by special voters from the highest ring, and is responsible to the planetary government for the betterment of the city.

Defences

Absolutely none. The city relies entirely on orbital battle as its defence.

Infrastructure

While there are no Skyscrapers in the city the overall level of infrastructure is on par with other metropoli, in particular the storm drains are superbly planned and maintained. The Shipyards on the edge are in varying states of repair ranging from rusting to shining new. Cobbled roads dominate the upper levels but lower down there is simple tarmac or gravelled concrete. The Landing Field is frequently maintained, with a permanent workforce purely for its almost constant resurfacing.

Architecture

Architecture is mainly inspired by 20th century Mediterranean forms. The upper ring painted in white with blue accents, the lower ring painting their homes a riot of colour.

Geography

The city peaks like a mountain, rising to some 300 metres above sea level at its highest point. The north and south stretch out flat for quite a distance
