When humanity spread out among the stars and closed the distance between settlements using Fargates, things changed. Once such change was the addition of psychics to the human race.
Whether the warp network altered humans or merely awakened a latent aspect of human DNA, no one knows. For that matter, few are even aware of the existence of psychics as anything other than unreliable rumors or ghost stories. Accounts differ on the exact capabilities of psychics, whether or not that have identifying marks, or even how their abilities manifest.
Major governmental factions are aware of their presence. Many have secret programs in place to harness, enhance, and focus their abilities. Certain enclaves also exist to help adept children grow into their full potential.
