The Asterian Republic

Asteria's power has always been built on the Shapers. The Shapers are the most secretive and powerful of the magical sects, for one reason: the Shapers have the power to magically create life. They can make new lifeforms from nothing but raw materials and pure magic. They mold it to serve their purposes, be it light housework or open warfare. Naturally, they guard the secrets of their powers very closely. Even before the Republic completed the Wars of Unification, attempting to learn their techniques was to court a swift death--at the hands of a Guardian by day or an Agent in the night.

With Shaper-made creations forming the bulk of their armies, the Asterian Republic has in turn shaped the past 250 years, conquering or otherwise subjugating their neighbors. As of 60 years ago, Archmage Anaxagoras Chiron declared victory with the capitulation of the Tsumikan Empire following the Day of Red Sun. Today, while Asteria might not have an iron grip on all of its holdings (particularly those on the other side of the Starbreak Sea), its presence is unmistakably felt across the known world. Republic Agents investigate claims of sorcery and alienism, not to mention illicit research into the Shaping Arts, with unlimited jurisdiction. Legions of Republic soldiers are garrisoned in capitals across both continents. Without some way to overcome their endless supply of ready-made troops, rebellion seems like a pipe dream.
