The Aether

Well of Magical Essence

The Aether is the well of arcane and divine energies still lingering from the great creation of Estorim. This font of primordial power permeates the realm and is the source of energy called upon by mages and other spellcasters. It is said to be the left over cosmic power of Eiso and the Eisonim as they forged the world and created its inhabitants, and as such it is believed that the aether's well is everflowing and unending.
When mages weave powerful spells and incantations it is actually the aether which they are tapping into to create their magical effects. All spellcasters rely on the aether, though their methods for harnessing and controlling it differ. It is also quite taxing to call upon the cosmic powers of the aether, and as such, even the most talented wizard can only tap into its well of power a small number of times per day.

Manifestation

The flowing magics of the aether cannot be seen by the unaided eye, however its impacts can be seen in nature throughout the realm. Those attuned with the aether can sense its presence and feel it in the air around them.

Localization

The Aether permeates the world as a whole and its energies can be tapped into by creatures which are attuned with it. It most situations, a creature's spatial location does not impact their ability to harness the aether, however there are rare locations where the aether is not as potent and some where it is heavily imbued into the fibers of the world. These locations are referred to as aetheric anomalies and are frequently the subject of study by mages.

Metaphysical, Arcane
