Earth was the crucible of Humanity. Now, it is merely the flowerpot that our roots still sit in, but we grew into a much larger garden.   It is Earth's 34th century. The three major known interstellar powers; the humans, the mynon, and the valandai; have built a massive constitutional empire together, simply known as the Sovereign Empire. It remains unchallenged and immovable by anything besides its own expansion. The other species of the explored galaxy have all either bent knee to the Sovereign, or are not organized enough to choose either way. And, perhaps as a surprise to many, it is agreeable by most. The Empire is effective at keeping peace and generally acts in the interest of its citizens. Corporate interests prove a challenge, but they are mostly kept in check. Order and peace are the goals of the Sovereign Empire, with unyielding authority and careful diplomacy as the tools.   Technology has advanced to levels of near-magic in some areas, not at all in others. Psionics were discovered and cybernetic amplifiers enabled all species to use these previously rare gifts. Genetic tailoring, cybernetic augmentation; expensive but effective. Humans, Mynon, Valandai, Gromnak, Krex'alai, Ej-ej, Voidlings; all live within the Empire, though some more luxuriously than others. Even so, the Empire has only explored roughly 10% of the Milky Way, and things always wait in the deep dark places of space.   And now the Empire's citizens must struggle in the aftermath of the greatest colonization effort in history. The freshly-colonized frontier is wider and more thinly spread than ever, with law becoming more and more rare as you leave the core. Politics, greed, and power-mongering still plague this society in times of peace, just as they always have in civilization. The more things change...   The more they stay the same.
