The Silk of the East

While silk in real life comes from small little worms it is different here. A small bit of ocean separates Eshan from the Mala counties and many of the nobles demand silk clothes from Mala. It is also demanded by those with magic as attaching spells and enchantments to silk is the easiest and lasts linger than other cloths.
What they don't know is that the way of cultivating the silk is dangerous. Those brave enough to harvest it must traverse the dangers of the Underdark. IT is harvested from giant silkworms that live there. There is fierce competition for this silk between those on the surface and the Drow and fights have even broken out for claims of colonies of silk worms.

Properties

Material Characteristics

In its raw form it looks like normal silk but it in much larger strands since they come from giant silk worms. It comes out a lovely silver like color and many people want it in its natural form but it can be dyed amazing colors.

Physical & Chemical Properties

The silk takes to magic better than most materials in the world. No one knows why but some think it's some sort of blessing of some sort of Underdark god. It also takes color well and the colors do not fade even after many years.

Geology & Geography

The material is found in random caves in the Underdark. When one of them is found the places is recorded so that that it can be found again. The collection of giant silk worms seems to be random and no one is has been able to figure out the patterns.

Origin & Source

Many, many years ago explores of the Underdark found a cave filled with these silk worms and collected the silk out of curiosity. A wizard studied the silk and made a spectacular magical rob from the material.
