The War for Queen Shezret
The War for Queen Shezret, also known as the War of the Spouses or the War of Prince Kenhar, was a brief military conflict between the Monarchy of Erdjerin and the Kingdom of Ra-Intal. Though the neighboring nations had warred in their early history, this was the first instance of open conflict in over 100 years. It lasted for a total of 44 days, during which only 2 skirmishes along the borders were fought, before the Kingdom of Ra-Intal surrendered.
Background
Queen Ilteimad of Erdjerin declared war on the Kingdom of Ra-Intal following the murder of her spouse, Queen Shezret, by an assassin hired by Prince Kenhar of Ra-Intal, the next in line to the Ra-Intal throne. The murder was part of a plot, constructed by Prince Kenhar and a member of the Erdjerin royal council, designed to render Queen Ilteimad a widow such that prince Kenhar could propose marriage to her and join the two royal houses into one. Though it was Queen Ilteimad's wish to ride into battle herself to avenge her love, she had been injured in connection with the assassination and was unable to. Appalled both by the uncivilized used of poison as a weapon and by the unprovoked attack by the neighboring kingdom, her generals quickly rallied to demand justice on her behalf. The king of Ra-Intal initially stood by his son, claiming the plot to be a lie spread by their enemies. However, as rumors of the assassination and the betrayal by the Erdjerin councilor reached the Ra-Intal military encampments, support for the Prince's defense quickly dwindled. Conclusion and Fallout
After having refused to meet with the Erdjerin envoys for several weeks, the king of Ra-Intal finally received proof of his son's involvement in the assassination and the plot on the 40th day of the war. Four days later, the crown prince was stripped of all titles and banished, and Ra-Intal officially surrendered and signed for peace. Though brief and relatively bloodless, the conflict did much to reinvigorate old suspicion and resentment between the two nations.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
