The Eltari

The Eltari are an ethnic group who trace their ancestry back to the realm of Queen Layarna the Unnumbered with which they share a name. Having long since fallen to the crush of time, the region where the proud and ancient land once was located now makes up parts of three different domains - the Monarchy of Erdjerin, the Kingdom of Ra-Intal and the democratic Realm of Jelletner.   In spite of the centuries and the borders that separate them from their common heritage, Eltari culture across the three domains has remained fairly consistent apart from the level of heterogenity that being spread out over a fairly sizeable area may naturally entail even within the same realm. Whatever differences do exist between the Eltari of different regions, they are not nearly large enough to prevent a strong sense of kinship and belonging from being present across all three communities.   Eltari make up 10-30% of the population in the different countries they now call their home. These numbers are an estimation based on current tax and other public records, ad the prevalence of markedly Eltari cultural practices in various regions. However, it is likely that a considerably higher proportion of these populations have Eltari heritage some number of generations ago, which has been lost or replaced through marriages, cultural oppression, religious conversion, migration and other factors.   While many Eltari look at the ancient realm of their people with pride and admiration but nonetheless consider it irrevocably a part of the past, it is not uncommon for them to refer to some future day when the realm of their ancestors will rise to power once again. For most this is just idle talk, a way to express loyalty to their heritage, but for a smaller subset of the population it is a political goal.
