Seed Strand

A seed strand is a religious symbol used by followers of the fringe Azemian movement known as First Path, to signal their religious affiliation to others from the same sect without drawing suspicion from outsiders. Due to the status of the faith, which has been branded as heretical by the religious establishment, followers have a need to both be able to identify their siblings in faith, in order to find help or safety, and be able to do so as anonymously as possible.    Most First Path believers live in rural, tight-knit communities where religious control is less severe, and as such have little need for such identification in their daily life, though some still wear them out of love for the symbol. As such, seed strands are primarily used by First Path followers in urban areas, who have a need to note who around them is trustworthy in such matters, and by anyone travelling to an unfamiliar place.    The strand can be worn anywhere on one's person - as a necklace, bracelet or anklet, hanging from a belt or pack, fastened into the hair etc. Some people even hang a strand outside their door or somewhere in their garden to show fellow believers who may be in need of help or shelter that their home or place of business is a safe haven. Generally, when travelling in group people will take care not to all wear their strands in the same way, in order to make it more difficult for the uninitiated to note as an identifying marker.    Appearance   A seed strand consists of a piece of green string, twine, yarn or other similar material, threaded through a series of dried nuts and seeds. The nuts and seeds need not be of specific types, but pale and dark colors should alternate in specific patterns. Occasionally, temporary strands that use a strand of grass in place of twine are made. The green of the twine and light and dark shades of the beads are an attempt to inconspicuously reference the colors green, brown and white - colors strongly associated with Azemi of Thran.
