Dimalian Lynx

The Dimalian Lynx is a semidomesticated species of feline, bred on the Dimalian mountains from wild lynxes native to the region. They have been used in rural areas for millennia as guard animals to protect flocks of sheep, goats and other livestock but have recently risen in popularity as personal guard animals for the wealthy in both rural and urban areas.

Appearance

The Dimalian lynx measures 25-30 inches at the shoulder and is of a slim and muscular build, as befits a guarding animal. They generally have a short, glossy coat in dark browns, greys and bluish silvery tones, or more rarely lighter browns, sand colors, black or white. The coat is commonly monochrome but patterning occasionally occurs. They have large tufted ears and longer fur around the neck and ankles. Their eyes range from yellow to green in color and enable exceptional dark-vision.

Relationship with Humans

Traditionally, Dimalian lynxes are used in rural areas to guard flocks of livestock against predators and bandits. Though they are domesticated and can be trained to follow commands, they should not be mistaken for pets. Their temperament is still relatively independent, and they commonly do not live with their family but rather out in the field with the animals. They are difficult to breed and train but highly valuable as guards, and as such most families will take very good care of their lynx or lynxes. Lately, the lynxes have become popular as guard animals for wealthier individuals in rural and urban areas alike. The rich will purchase these animals to guard their spouses or children as a show of wealth, a practice which have driven prices up. A completely black or completely white coat, fairly uncommon as they are traditionally bred for function and not appearance, have become particularly popular. Although well-trained Dimalian lynxes can make fantastic bodyguards, a few deaths have been reported as a result of people purchasing improperly trained animals or as a result of mistreatment causing a violent reaction.
