Myrsta's Mystic Players
A Mysterious Carnivale of Wonders
Myrsta's Mystic Players are expensive to rent, but often work for free providing entertainment to the masses. Nobody knows quite where they will be at any given time, or their method of travel, or how exactly the tents get put up so fast, but nobody really cares.
If the Players are in town, it's a guaranteed day off for everyone except those in the food business -- the Players never bring their own food, but they pay well for the necessary services. At times they seem to be omniscient as they will often visit a town with a shortage of gold the day before an inspection and boost the local economy by buying food. They never pay for any other services, including food for the exotic animals that roam the grounds of their magical Carnivale freely, just food for themselves. There are rumors that Myrsta herself is secretly anything ranging from Asmodeus' daughter to the Star-eyed Lady herself to a wild Wendigo created at the Cataclysm, but since nobody has ever seen her, these are of course only wild speculation.
Once a person is accepted into the Players, they are a Player for life. Even if they become too old to perform the feats they were hired for, Myrsta provides them with shelter and food, and work if they wish it. These are the old men and women you will see on stools perched around the perimeter. They are too old to perform acrobatics, but function as sentries and extra magical power should it be necessary.
A Brief History of the Players
Myrsta's Mystic Players have been around since the founding of Vatana, and for this reason it is speculated that Myrsta is either immortal or close to it. They were originally know as simply the Players, and this name is still in common use today. Their charity work isn't traditional, but it grew out of a need Myrsta saw in the border-wars with Chesa. They travel everywhere now, though they were originally confined to Vatana's borders. The reason for the expansion in their ground covered regularly is unknown.

What, Exactly, Does Becoming One Entail?
To be absolutely sure, you'd have to ask Myrsta. Base requirements seem to be talent with magic (no matter how small or insignificant) and at least one other interesting skill, be that singing, dancing, or hat-making. Auditions are conducted periodically, but even if you do well at auditions, there is an interview afterwards and nobody is certain what the criteria for passing that are. If you are in a bad situation, Myrsta has been known to go out of her way to take in street-orphans (when the Players come through town, the streets always seem unusually quiet for a few days afterwards) and neglected elderly. So long as you can be taught both magic and another useful skill, and you are in a bad spot (or so the children whisper to one another behind their hands) Myrsta will adopt you.Remove these ads.
