Session 36-44
General Summary
The drow were not holding the Starsinger, but instead a shadar-kai. He took the group to the Shadowfell,, specifically the village named Broken Dreams. There, Alesha fell victim to the curse that plagues Broken Dreams, losing the memories of her loved ones. Miz'ri, of all people, was the one that was most concerned by this. They discovered that the followers of Vecna had gotten quite close to the Raven Queen's domain in the Palace of Memories, and that in order to find the Starsinger they would have to seek the Maven of Winter.
No further memories were lost, and they eventually completed the Raven Queen's trial and received a vision asking them to retrieve for her a mask that could have compromised the Palace of Memories.
They quested to the location specified in the vision and successfully retrieved the masked from the one the held it. On returning, Alistaire was given a magic cloak that possessed the ability to turn him into a bird. Halvar was killed by Kas, and replaced in the party by one of the Raven Queen's priests, Rishkar. The party returned to the Material Plane and were accosted by a spider creature made of adamant. It attempted to steal Miz'ri, but was eventually slain. Afterwards, Miz'ri was accompanied by her older sister, Menzoberra. Against her will, Miz'ri was coerced by Cheshire to look after the 150 drow that journeyed to the surface to seek a new life away from Lolth. Summoned by Lady Amartheleth, Cheshire convinced the party to return to Ruath, and aid her in resurrection requests. The drow were eventually transferred to Firion via teleportation circle.
Alesha was confronted with the reality that something was missing when she came into contact with Thia. The two broke off their relationship, and Alesha cursed the gods. After blaspheming in the Platinum Sanctuary, Alesha went to the Raven's Sanctuary to request her memories returned to her. After being told that there was nothing that could be done, Alesha was told the most important lesson that an elf can learn: to segment their lives in order to help them deal with the pain of being among the lesser lived races. Cheshire, after hearing Alesha told that there was nothing to be done about her memories, decided to pray for the first time in his life. His prayer went unheard. Alesha took a new name: Kaalia of the Vast. Alistaire took control of his father's syndicate. On their return to Firion, Kaalia, Alistaire, and Miz'ri swore fealty to the new queen: Ira Macmillan Firious. Miz'ri was made a baroness, and her people given land outside of Firion in which to settle. Tabaxi have been freed, and clog the streets of the city. Armies have mustered outside of Firion, at least one in opposition of Queen Ira. Alistaire was given a task by Lust, a member of the Clasp: to steal the Heart of Fire, a large star ruby, from the vault of the high priest of Ioun. When he brought the stone to Greed, he asked Greed why his allowance from the syndicate was taken from him. Al accepted the answer that Greed was just borrowing it, and that his allowance would be returned to him (probably after winter passes). Al was asked to have the Heart of Fire cut into a piece that was worth 5,000 gp, and to bring it to the Queen as a gift. Alistaire was disturbed slightly by Greed's admission that he could run the country if he wanted to.
Rishkar was slain during a celebration, and Cheshire accepted a task from a priest of Erathis named Luc. The party traveled to Nalia, where their task was to bring Luc a troll liver and the head of a hydra. They were waylaid temporarily by the appearance of a will-o'-wisp, which lead them to the lair of a black dragon. They confronted the dragon, eventually chasing it off. They then raided the dragon's horde before returning to civilization to lick their wounds.
