Tarasque, The

The Tarasque was a titanic lizard whose skeleton was discovered in the eastern desert of The Outlands. The monstrosity was thought to have been dead for millions of years, with its sunbleached skeleton erupting from the sand barely when it was discovered. This beast's skeleton is very similar to the living appearance of Tarasques from other material planes, such as Greyhawk or The Bellowing Wilds. Erozorona is considered lucky that it has been dead for a long time, and not just dormant like it is in other worlds. The idea of what it could be like if it was still alive terrifies archaeologists to this day.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Tarraesque had the anatomy of a bipedal lizard, and compared to the thick and massive bones of the fossils, it was thought to have a uniquely powerful muscular system, adding possibly hundreds of tonnes to its already record-breaking weight. It had two legs thicker than redwood tree trunks, and another two arms slightly smaller, but their joint structure indicates that these were not used for walking.

Genetics and Reproduction

The reproduction method of this species is unknown, but it is thought to have laid eggs, similar to most reptiles.

Growth Rate & Stages

Only one fossilized adult has ever been discovered, so it is unknown what they look like as babies.

Ecology and Habitats

The fossil was discovered in the eastern desert of The Outlands, but it is unknown if it dwelled there, or if it was even a desert at the time.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Because of its enormous size and its array of carnivorous incisor teeth, it was probably a carnivore and hunted large animals.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

The Tarasque had a snub snout with large bull-like horns growing from its temples. The discovered skeleton had very large eye sockets for absorbing large amounts of light, presumably for seeing in the dank.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The Outlands presumably.

Average Intelligence

The cranium has a very thick skull with a smaller than average space for a brain, so intelligence was probably lower than average for an animal of its stature.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The Tarraesque's skeleton had two large empty sockets fitting with where eyes should be, along with two smaller holes on the end of the snout, similar to nostrils. Because of its size, and presumably its scales, it may have had less feeling in its skin, block by a thick layer of keratin.
