Ist Mahat

Ist Mahat is the legendary lost city and burial site of ancient royalty of Aryt'Sau. Once this city was the home of Aryt'Sauran Royalty. However, once the capital moved south to Sabah , Ist Mahat's status and upkeep started to decline, eventually becoming abandoned and falling into ruin. A couple of thousand years later and the sands of the desert have almost completely reclaimed the lost and forgotten city, making it hard to find, to the point of the city's mere existence has fallen into myth and legend.   The main myth surrounding the lost city are the tales of unimaginable wealth lying beneath the sands, buried with the long dead pharaohs and their servants. These tales have lead many people to venture into the desert in search of this supposed lost treasure. Many of these people never return.

Geography

The city only has the tops of a few ruined buildings and monuments poking out of the top of the sand dunes that have reclaimed the city, the rest is soft, golden sand.

Localized Phenomena

Approaching the lost city is hard. Mirages often make navigating to the city harder than it normally would be. The surrounding areas tingle with an ancient form of magic, although the spells have long since faded, the residue still lingers.

History

The former capital city of Aryt'Sau, Ist Mahat was once the most powerful city in the region. The city held the throne and the rulers as well as all their wealth and tributes. When a ruler died, they were often said to be buried with their treasure to take with them to the afterlife. This tradition carried on for unknown generations until the capital city moved further south. With the tributes to the city stopping, the city soon dried up as people moved elsewhere, many to the new capital. The city was soon abandoned, left for the desert to reclaim.   Rumours about the buried treasure arose, as well as myths and legends about the spirits of the dead rulers and their armies raising from the dead to defend their wealth.  Some say there's some truth to this, others say that it's a made up legend to deter tomb raiders.
