The Elder Council of the Eridanian Nations

One of the oldest organizations in Eridania, the Elder Council is a meeting of the monarchs of all kingdoms who, led by the Guardians, discuss issues and make decisions that concern the whole planet.   The Council has the most varied functions of the Eridanian government, such as: the creation and approval of laws and taxes, intermediation of peace treaties, mobilization of armies, trial for war criminals, approval for public works, philanthropic actions, etc. In addition to all such matters of state, the organization also has the ability to judge and even dismiss its own members from their titles and lands if sufficient evidence is presented.

Structure

The High Councilor

  It is the leader of the organization. The High Councilor has full power over the Council, it is the person who organizes and defines whether or not it should meet. Generally, it abstains in the votes, voting only in case of tie between the members. In addition to chairing the meetings, it also chairs trials or other events held by the organization.

Councilor

  They are the common members of the Council, or in other words, the kings or queens of the kingdoms of Eridania. The monarchs receive the title and the seat as soon as they are crowned as rulers. Their votes have equal weights among themselves, and all of them have the same rights and duties before the Council.

Supreme Arcane

  It is the leader of the Order of the Arcanes of Eridania, a council of the most powerful sorcerers of the planet. It holds an honorary seat in the Council to defend it's organization's ideas before the Eridanian government. Its vote has a greater weight than the Councilors, since it is multiplied by the number of members of the Inner Council of the Order.

Headmaster of the Royal Academy

  It holds an honorary seat in the Council to serve as the voice of the institution for the Eridanian government. Its vote has a greater weight than the Councilors, as it is multiplied by the number of members of the Board of the Royal Academy.

Supreme General of the White Army

  It has a seat for being the leader of the Council's military force, the White Army. Its role in the organization, apart from participating in decision-making, is to maintain updates on Army forces and on the outcome of missions sanctioned by the Council. Its vote has the same weight as common Councilors.

The Council's Treasurer

  Although it does not have an official seat in the Council, the Treasurer is an important member of the Eridanian government. It administers the assets of the organization, allocates the necessary money to the public organs, supplies the army and gives credit to the kingdoms through the Eridinian Bank, in case a requisition has been approved by the Council.

The Master Cleric

  It is the supreme leader of the Clergy of Ninfena, the official religion of all Eridania. Because of its ideals, the Cleric refrains from voting, but still has the right to speak and present its point of view at Council meetings.

The High Scribe

  The Scribe is not exactly a member of the Council, but rather an employee of it. Its role is to record all that is said at meetings, record new laws, and also administer the Council Archives and the Royal Library.

Public Agenda

The motivations and objectives of the Council can be summarized by the three words that make up the motto of the organization:
  • "Justice", as it is their duty to maintain a just and equal society for all the inhabitants, as well as to judge those who break the most sacred laws;

  • "Life", as they must protect the existence and well-being of people;

  • "and Freedom," because the most sacred law of Eridania is that peoples are free, either to expose their thoughts, or to assume who they are before society.
  All decisions of the Council are taken on the basis of these three principles, which are engraved on the gates of the Council Hall.

History

The first Council meeting, which at the time was not a formed organization and did not have a proper name, happened after the Guardians defeated the fallen god, Obscurium. The monarchs of all the kingdoms of the planet put their disagreements aside and united in the lands where today is located the capital of Eridania, to discuss if they should trust the Guardians, who proclaimed themselves daughters of the goddess Ninfena, or whether they should confront them and banish them from Eridania.   After much discussion, they requested the presence of the Guardians and declared that they wanted evidence of who they claimed to be. Together, the four of them summoned the goddess Ninfena herself, who confirmed that the Guardians were her own daughters, and that she had sent them because "her time in Eridania had come to an end, and dark times were approaching".   The monarchs made a point of abdicating their powers and accepting the rule of their goddess's daughters, but the Guardians prevented them, stating that "they had been sent with the intention of guiding and protecting them, not to dominate them or their lands". So they suggested that the monarchs would keep government over their kingdoms, and when it was necessary to resolve matters that involved or affected the entire planet, they would meet there, in that same place, as a council.   Some time later, what Ninfena had proclaimed became true, for the island of Ancalys was invaded by the organization whose name would inspire fear in the Eridinanian hearts for the following millennia: The League of Darkness . The Council then became too necessary to remain informal the way it was. All the kingdoms of Eridania legitimized and made official their loyalty to the Council, pointing the four Guardians as the leaders of the organization. Each monarch ceded part of its armies to the Council, and The White Army was formed. Then began the long war between the two organizations, Council against League. A war that tainted Eridania with tales of blood, defeat and glory. A war to maintain the freedom of peoples against the enslavement of the forces of darkness.   The organization also needed an official headquarters where it could organize meetings. Then the building of The Council Hall began, located on the same plain where they had first met. And around it, the city of Adris Eleos has grown in all its glory and beauty. And even with the bloody battles that the Council fought (and continues to fight) against the League, the kingdoms of Eridania also grew and prospered.   Over the years, the organization was nicknamed the Elder Council by the people because of its long existence, and this eventually became part of the title later established for it: the Elder Council of Eridanian Nations.
