Magic

The blood that flows in the veins of Eridania.

Magic is the beating heart of Eridania. The world revolves around magic, and it would not be the same without it. The Magic of Eridania does not consist only of the gifts of the people, being much more extensive and present. It governs the seasons, rains, crops, creatures and forests. From it they get energy, which brings light to the inhabitants and moves them across the planet. Without magic, Eridania would find its end.

Conditions

Magic as a gift is something a little more complicated. Not every inhabitant of Eridania is born with magical powers, but it is usually a genetically passed gift, making magic much more common on the planet today than it was at the beginning.   People born with magic can seek to improve and learn more about their gifts at the Royal Academy in Luxcis where they can study to become masters of the arcane arts and learn a profession in which their gift can be applied. They may be battlemages in the Army, sorcerers of some nobleman's court, healers, tamers of magical creatures, artificers, among other diverse paid activities.   People who do not have the gift from birth can have magic in other ways. It may be through a pact with divine or demonic entities (although the latter is forbidden and can end up becoming a curse) and through family inheritance / power objects such as magic swords, staffs, amulets, jewels, enchanted books, among others . There is also a last way where the person can extract the energy of the living beings that make up the environment around it, but this method is very dangerous and strictly forbidden by the Elder Council, which considers this practice one of the Dark Arts.

Categories

There are several "types" of magic. The first and most common category is Basic Magic, which includes basic mastery of elements of nature, defensive magic, basic illusion, rune creation, teleportation, levitation of objects, among a few others. Even though it is considered basic, people born with this type of Magic can become very powerful if they work hard on their gifts.   The second is the Rare or Unusual Magic, where the person presents, in addition to Basic Magic, a more specific power, such as the greater mastery of a specific element, conjuration, shapeshifting, prophecy, telepathy, astral projection, etc.   The third and most powerful is Extraordinary Magic, which encompasses higher order powers, be they divine or demonic. Those gifted with this type of Magic may be able to perform true miracles or, in evil variations, cause real curses upon the world, only, of course, if they reach their full potential, since Extraordinary Magic has its own classification system. Included here are the powers of the Gods, the Ancient Spirits, the Divine Beasts, the Beasts of Chaos, the Greater Demons and the Angels.

The Dark Arts

The Dark Arts, also commonly called Black Magic, are forms of magic considered profane by the Elder Council, for they break the Sacred Laws of Eridania. These practices are usually authored by The League of Darkness , but eventually spread through the criminal underworld of Eridania by spell tomes, magic scrolls or enchanted weapons.   Among the Dark Arts are: necromancy, corruption of beings or places, mental and corporal dominion, curses, magic plagues, summoning of demons, blood magic, absorption or theft of magic and powers, among others.
