Paxen Species in Eridani Ilioneus | World Anvil

Paxen

Paxen are large animals that have hooves and long, shaggy fur. They stand about 5 feet tall, and are about 8 feet long. They have very strong, sturdy legs for different terrain, and are sure footed on rocky slopes and hills.   Paxen are used for hauling carts, plowing fields, carrying materials, and for riding. Paxen require little water, and generally can go 2 days without water. They eat vegetaion, so feeding the paxen doesn't take a lot. They just need to be able to graze periodically to survive.   Paxen can walk all day without a break. The muscles don't wear out that fast, and after grazing from the vegetation, their body uses the nutrients to rapidly regenerate muscle tissues so they can work without a break.   Paxen are very loyal, well-natured animals. They also connect with the planet, just at a lower capacity.   Paxen have a higher functioning brain, so they are generally easy to control and cooperate with people. There is no need for fencing, since the paxen can understand and follow simple directions.   Paxen will have up to 4 pregnancies, and gestation period of 6 months. They only carry one offspring at a time, and once the offspring is born, generally can be separated from the mother after 6 months. This allows the mother to care for the offspring until it's connection with planet is made, and then offspring is looked after by the entire herd.

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

They carry in gestation for 6 months, and a female paxen will have 4 calves only in her life span. When they are born, they can stand on their legs, yet wobbly on them for a few days after birth.   The young stays with the mother for the first 6 months of it's life before the paxen get's pregnant again and at which time she pushes the offspring away to fend for itself. They feed off the mothers teets for 3 months before they start eating solid food provided by the owners.

Growth Rate & Stages

Paxen have a life span of about 300 - 325 years. They are able to work from 2 years old up through 300 years. As soon as they are too old to work, they are generally placed in a field where they will stay until they die from old age.   By 2 years old, the paxen are fully developed and have a good muscle mass. They will continue to strengthen for another 50 years.
