Eriath

A world of gods and men. Saints and sinners. Scholars and warriors. Merchants and marauders. A realm of marvels beyond measure, and cruelties beyond words.   The continent of Eriath and the surrounding lands are home to a plethora of peoples, climes and topographies – from the damp, mist-swathed isles of the utter west, to the sprawling rock-carved dominions of the eastern sunlands, which were ancient when the world was still young.   Continent-striding empires rise and fall and crumble into dust, and a myriad of kingdoms, principalities and city-states – locked in an eternal blood-drenched struggle for supremacy – rise up from the ashes.   Unceasing war ravages the land. Steel-encased chevaliers charge headlong into the field alongside axe-wielding savages, only to be decimated by the thunderous fusillade of tightly-ranked handgunners and fire-belching cannon. Hidden cabals and mystery cults, meanwhile, concoct their plots in shadowed secrecy.   Although the power of the great ecclesiasts and the religious doctrines they uphold is nearly supreme throughout every corner, the savage pagan past looms large at all times – and sometimes denizens of that mythic world will see fit to emerge from the pages of legend, in order to impose their dominion over people and nations.   Eriath is not only a world of medieval and mythic fantasy – it is a darkly-tinted lens turned upon our own world, and its great wealth of lore and histories. A lens that suggests to us not only what things were like back in earlier and more merciless centuries, but also how things could have been – had the vagaries of history seen fit to wend themselves along a different course.
