The Iron Priesthood

The Iron Priesthood is a circle of priests and clerics that worship the Iron Pillars. They believe that the pillars are manifestations of the gods, and that they can be used to create miracles. Their rituals involve chanting prayers over the pillars while holding them with their hands or making gestures as they pass them by. They also perform offerings and fasts in the presence of the pillars. The Iron Priesthood has an immense amount of wealth that they use to influence politics in the city-states. They believe that extracting ore from the earth and forging metal is a sacred act. The Iron Priesthood's founder was a man named Valis who lived during the Shrouded Age. He believed that his god had abandoned him, so he meditated on the Iron Pillars as a way to connect himself back to his deity. It is said that the pillars granted him visions of the future, and of other worlds far away. After this happened, he founded the Iron Priesthood and began spreading its teachings across the continent. Each church of the Iron Priesthood is ruled by a forge-bishop overseeing a group of priests and clerics. Each priest or cleric is assigned a nearby pillar to serve. These pillars are always located within five days' travel. The priests and clerics must maintain these pillars at all times, and any time they fail to do so, they will be punished. This punishment varies depending on how serious the offense is. In addition to this duty, the priests are tasked with teaching locals how to smelt and smith, operating the church forge and furnace, and leading sermons for the laypeople. Clerics are often charged with missions to fight the Priesthood's enemies or retrieve an ancient artifact.
