Sebastian Vaneras, the First Vampire

Before the bonding when Elturel ruled over Erenel with an iron fist, a powerful and loyal Elven sorcerer pledged service and quickly rose to great power under Elturel’s guidance. Known for his dark and sadistic nature, followers of Elturel dared whisper the name, Sebastian Vaneras, for they did not wish to attract his gaze.   In time, only the Scarlet Walker held a higher status in Elturel’s court. While the Scarlet Walker pursued her new-found Blood Magic, Sebastian Vaneras was enthralled by necromantic energies and how they tainted flesh allowing for experimentation.   When Al'Madoon saw the destruction upon his world and sacrificed his celestial body during the bonding, Elturel was flung into the Below. While falling, Elturel reached out to bring his court and loyal follower with him. The Scarlet Walker willingly accepted the fall without hesitation. However, Sebastian Vaneras did not. Seeing his once loyal followers’ rejection, Elturel cursed Sebastian ripping away Sebastian’s life essence as he continued his descent.

Reawakening

Sebastian Vaneras was left on Erenel having avoided his master’s fate. What remained was not the dark beautiful elf, but a twisted undead husk hungering for the same blood and flesh that had haunted his mind before the Sacrifice. He could feel his life essence missing and was left unholy.   To sustain his horror, Sebastian was forced to feed on the life essence of other creatures. Some providing enough nourishment to last for weeks while others only mere hours. When the sun rose it burned and tore at his skin, forcing him into the darkness he once coveted. Traveling at night, Sebastian found his way into an overgrown dense forest, where mighty trees reach high devouring the light providing comfort. It was here he stayed, constructing a dark spire hidden away from the other intelligent races now migrating across Erenel in search of a new life following the Elves defeat.   Centuries passed before Sebastian truly accepted what he had become and how to properly use his new “talents”. Feeding on more intelligent races such as Human, Orc, and Ursus would provide more life essence. Also, if Sebastian fed too hungrily and killed the creature, it would rise as a dark spawn, twisted and soulless. This new type of experimentation fascinated Sebastian.   What creatures could he call back from death?   Could he form his own army?   Could he spread this darkness and reclaim Erenel to be as it was before Al’Madoon stole it?   With these questions in mind, Sebastian set out creating more dark spawn. Their dark hunger festering in his wake ranging from the Alabaster Thicket of the south and reaching to the Howling Highlands and beyond.

Death of the First

When Sebastian Vaneras returned to his home in the Northern Wildwood, he was both surprised and delighted to find an Aves settlement had been established close to his Spire. The Aves nest Zeffari was horrified as their community was ravaged by the bloodthirsty Vampire Lord. Their loved ones would return as dark spawn and attempt to drain the life essence of neighbors and family members.   However, Sebastian Vaneras did not expect the Aves to be such a resilient and intelligent race. Powerful spellcasters by nature, the Zeffari Flock Leader Aratil followed Sebastian back to his Spire, avoiding the many traps and dark spawn that awaited to protect their vampire lord as he slept.   Once Sebastian lay in his resting place of choice, a grave dug into the dirt of the Northern Wildwood, Aratil struck. Aratil drove a long wooden stake into the heart of Sebastian both ending the life of the vampire lord and freeing those weaker dark spawn close enough to hear Sebastian’s cries. As Aratil left the Vampire Lord’s Spire, he tethered into the bond shrouding the resting place and forever hiding the Spire of Sebastian Vaneras.

The Wooden Stake

Unbeknownst to Aratil and the Zeffari, the wooden stake protruding from Sebastian’s heart was embedded deep into the soil. Necromantic blood seeping from the Vampire Lord’s wound would provide nourishment for the wooden stake which began to sprout roots. This Tree of Blight rose from Sebastian’s corpse forcing itself out of the spire and into the Northern Wildwood. Hidden by the shroud placed upon it by Artail the Tree of Blight flourished and has now reached maturity plunging the area into darkness yet again.
