A brutal world has been reborn.
Awakening from his slumber, the Creator
Al'Madoon saw the destruction and greed his favorite creation, the
Elves, had brought to Erenel. To cleanse the corruption, Al’Madoon sacrificed his celestial being and bonded with the world, rescuing it from subjection forced upon all civilizations by
Elturel the Fallen Elf.
In an instant, the surviving races opened their eyes for what felt like the first time only to discover crumbling kingdoms and broken landscapes. The knowledge of the previous world lost and the Elven kingdoms forgotten.
What Should You Know About Erenel
Fantasy Setting
Erenel is a world setting designed to be used when playing Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition. Elements of many great fantasy settings and multiple role playing systems are used as inspiration in the world. If you are a reader of fantasy, you'll feel right at home in the foundation of what the setting is built. Humans, Dwarves, Elves and Orcs are mainstays, but new memorable races and ethnicities are just as important. Also, differing levels of technological advancements have made way for gunpowder and clockwork creations in certain civilizations, although not all are so lucky.
Erenel is designed for new readers and role players to dive in with a familiar yet fresh concept. Remember, not all is as it seems! World-changing mysteries lie waiting to be revealed.
Tethering and the Bond
The Bond is a font of power flowing through and connecting everything touched by the sacrifice of Al'Madoon in his attempt to restore Erenel. The Bond resides in every creature, river, stone and even air. This raw magic is able to be felt and accessed by inhabitants who have a natural talent or those who have studied and trained in accessing the Bond.
The Bond is all forms of Arcane and Divine magic. The only difference is how inhabitants choose to access the Bond. Some spellcasters such as Clerics, Paladins and Warlocks access the Bond because their deity or patron have attuned their senses to better "Tether." Where as other spellcasters have a gift for accessing the bond or through sheer practice and study have learned to Tether.
The Story of Creation
The Great Sacrifice
As Elturel assaulted Al’Madoon above the Tree of Aymara, the Architect understood what had to be done in order to cleanse the corruption and spare his beloved Erenel. In a bright flash of light, Al’Madoon sacrificed his celestial body exploding into an apotheosis of divine light. Elturel and the Tree of Aymara took the full force of Al’Madoon’s sacrifice but no part of the universe would be left unscathed. The force of the blast shattered the timeline, freezing all non-deities in a time-lapse that would last for eons.
The celestial explosion tore at the fabric of the universe, ripping open three new planes.
The Above, formed from the love of Al’Madoon and his self-sacrifice. For choosing light over darkness, Rezmir would ascend to the Above, welcoming the kind-hearted and those who embraced the light. With the help of his sisters, Asanna and Luniwyn, Rezmir successfully recovered a branch from the damaged Tree of Aymara, planting this new tree close to his acquired domain. This branchling grew and began to bear fruit, as its mother Aymara did before it, forming angels and seraphim as the fruit ripened.
The Below formed from the hate and greed festering within Elturel. Elturel fell into the Below from Al’Madoon’s sacrifice, finding himself surrounded by a plane of shadow and despair. Many Elves, witnessing their master fall, cursed Al’Madoon and followed Elturel as he descended. A deep hatred for Al’Madoon consumed Elturel. In disgust by his failure, he began to manipulate the Elves loyal to him, transforming their flesh into horrific variations. Over time, these Elves became the first demons and devils, their minds now broken by suffering.
The Trance formed from the remnants of Al’Madoon’s subconscious. Without a celestial body to inhabit, Al’Madoon’s mind wanders forever dreaming in the Trance, a magical plane of beauty, grace, and peril. The Trance partially covers the Above, the Below, and Erenel.
The Era of the Bonded One
Centuries of advancement, powerful artifacts, and sprawling kingdoms would fade away while the intelligent races of Erenel remained caught between time. Eventually, the time-lapse would cease, and the surviving races opened their eyes for what felt like the first time. The inhabitants of Erenel, left with no prior memories, now inherit a new world to discover.

Human Ambition Shapes the World
Humans are the most adaptable and ambitious people among the common races. They have widely varying tastes, morals, and customs in the many different lands where they have settled. When they settle, though, they stay: they build cities to last for the ages, and great kingdoms that can persist for centuries. Humans have effectively outgrown the other intelligent races settling kingdoms across every continent and are currently the most dominant species in Erenel. There are six distinct human ethnicities that play a major role in shaping the world.
