Ruins of Olon / Cat-Folk Ruins

It has been speculated that the world of Ereglast was once rules by a  race of humanoid cats.  There were feline governments, cities, trading posts, rituals, deities, and artifacts. These beings are now few and far between in Ereglast, their last bastion being a small community south east of the White Mountains.  Few can speak their language, and little of their history is known, save the ruined remains of their ancient culture scattered throughout the realm.   The cat folk are kind, and for those reasons, they are often taken advantage of by greedy traders and dangerous brigands.  It seems as though as many as are born each year also die or are killed and so the entire population lives in limbo, and their culture is very much in danger of being wiped out completely.  The remaining cat folk are mainly shamans, choosing to live with the land surrounding the southern tip of the white mountains.  They seldom speak and when they do, they prefer to speak through shamanistic rituals.  They have large carved pipes and blow images in clouds of smoke, and they communicate though pictures in those smoke clouds.  No one is quite sure how they do it.   A few years ago Barod Olon, the keeper of the Staff of Dreams disclosed to the Lord of Wyeheath that he had made some amazing discoveries in the ruins that he called home.  Many ancient carvings were cut into the stone walls of those ruins, and these carvings depicted cat folk lore.  There are crumbling statues within the ruins as well.  Barod was working on uncovering some of the history, deciphering the ancient texts, pictographs, and runes found within those ruins, but like all things with the cat folk, upon his passing, all knowledge was again lost.   That ruin was not the only place in the world containing information into the history, language, and life of the cat folk.  Perhaps with time, and interest, some adventurers will piece together enough knowledge to really know what happened to the massive cat folk presence that has now dwindled down into just a small tribe.
