Heironeous, God of Valor

Haifalls the capital city of Ereglast got its nick name "The City of Mercy", after Heironeous the invincible god of war assisted its citizens in a battle against an undead hoard from the East in the Third Age. A copper statue of Heironeous wielding an eight foot longsword can be seen at the cities center.   It is not uncommon for such an event to happen in the Realm of Ereglast.  Religions zealots, pious priests, and sacrificial barbarians are common place within hallowed halls and deep dungeon delves.  On occasion, gods find their way across the planes of existence to reach out to a follower or to smite a worthy foe.   Heironeous, a god that is considered to be good in nature, is praised by holy clerics, mighty paladins, and jealous lovers seeking retribution.  His name is often praised, and his blessing called for by knights lining up on the field of battle.  His holy symbol is a lightning bolt, and many blacksmiths that follow Heironeous also adopt the lightning bolt as part of their makers mark when they are finishing a weapon or piece of heavy armor.   Often times, when a storm is rolling across the realm and is particularly raging with high winds, thunderous reports, and blinding flashes of lightning, priests will give sermons the next day speaking of how Heironeous was trying to cross into the realm of Ereglast from his plane of existence.  Others feel that the storms and lightning are the wrath of the god of lightning, and perhaps not enough blessings and sacrifices are being made in his name.    It has been a few thousand years since he stood with men on the battlefield against the hoard of invading undead at the city of Haifalls, however if you ask a citizen of Haifalls, particularly a man of the cloth, you would believe that it happened last week.  Many monuments were created for the god within the city, and there is a shrine or chapel dedicated to the god on almost every block of the city.     For a couple of gold pieces, most bards can be persuaded to tell the tale of the battle of Haifalls and the retribution, valor, wrath, and good will that Heironeous is worshiped for.
