Cotypr Quill Beast

Far to the east, where the Morthal mountains meet the woods of Cotypr, an ancient beast stalks and prays upon men and beast alike. A towering creature that walks on all fours, it is covered in splotches of dark and light brown quills. Its face is swine like, its feet are hoofed, and its disposition is deathly aggressive. There are only a few of these beasts found within the sprawling Cotypr Woods, but most avoid the woods on the presence of the Quill Beasts alone.   The Cotypr Quill Beasts are solitary animals. Males and females mate in a brutal ritual and then the female parts ways before the male eats their own offspring. The young quill beasts are then raised by their mothers for two years and they are taught how to hunt. Once two years have passed, the young quill beast is abandoned by its mother and left to survive on its own. Quill beasts will hunt and devour anything with warm blood. They have an excellent sense of smell, and despite their large size, they are silent hunters, choosing to lay in wait for long periods of time waiting for their quarry to walk by after they have scented them.   They get the name quill beasts from the six inch, dagger like quills all over their back and the sides of their bodies. They can expel these razor sharp quills at will, cutting down their victims in a torrential rain of unspeakable agony. They only throw the amount of quills necessary to wound potential prey however, as they enjoy following behind, stalking their prey.  Sometimes they will stalk their prey for hours before they finish the job with their ripping tusks.   Though druids in the region have tried to tame the beasts, none have been successful. The beasts mentality is so primal and rudimentary that even those highly adept in animal handling have had little success in communicating with the beasts, and some who have tried to read their minds have gone mad in the process. The Cotypr Quill Beasts are considered highly dangerous, and anyone traveling the area of Cotypr wood should do so with caution. If you must travel to the Cotypr Woods, it is recommended that you hire at least twenty warriors to go along as protection.
