Chapter 1 - Ms. Fox

Good morning Ms. Fox. Please follow me, it is time for your next mission. I've never seen their faces, nor any identifying features. Hell, I don't even know if it's a man or a woman. It's been a tough journey so far, but everything had a purpose. Be it to strenthen our body, our mind, or learn to let go of things that could weaken our resolve in the future.   The same sparsely decorated room. But it's my room, and I don't have to share it with anyone. No smelly orcs, no entitled elfs and no humans that think they're better than everyone else. I mean, they train us to not have anything of our own, to let go of who we are. They say that having attachments will kill you ... But at least, I'm still here, I think to myself, another sleep without surprises, and a restful one at that!   The hallway is a bit dark, with barely enough light to see. My Master, as they're referred to by those that are around longer, leads me to a small room. Not much is in it, except for a small table and chair, facing away from the door. I've always wondered what our goal is I think, as they tell me to go sit down at a wooden table. It's odd, this table is perfect for my size. Almost as if it's been built just for me, which is strange considering i'm only 3 feet tall. There is a piece of paper on it. I know my Master is standing behind me, always just out of sight, out of my vision. It was weird at first, I tried to look at them. But it always was as if there was a shimmer, making it very difficult to look directly at them.   Read it. The voice was clear in my head. It almost was as if they were my own thoughts. As I stared at the paper, trying to see if I could understand what it meant. The paper was a thicker kind of parchment, and the scribblings seem to have been made with a pigment based in charcoal. It was not a scroll that could hold a spell, or anything magical at all in fact.   As I touch the scroll, I close my eyes and feel the lines of the parchment. The edge of the letters, where they start and end. A slow tingle makes its way down myarms and into my fingers, and I can see the letters change before my very eyes. It's happened a few times in the past, and lately I've gotten better at being able to do it on command. Kill your worst enemy   That's when the smell hits me. A fresh smell of roses, like I'm walking in a pond. It's interesting what a smell can do to the mind, as I can feel my body slowly go numb from the gas that's released into the room, and the world turns into darkness.
