The Red Forest; A Gnomish Enchantment
The Red Forest is a beautiful, lush forest. The trees in it are all pines, but they have red needles instead of green ones. The forest was enchanted by gnomes, and gnomes still live there, out of sight to the adventurers that seek them.
Geography
The Red Forest is beside Serpent Lake. It is a beautiful, forbidding place. The forest floor is covered in all kinds of flowers, from daisies to tulips. The gnomes cultivated it to be a marvelous place, meant to lure travelers in. They so like company, because otherwise they can't play tricks on hapless travelers. There are numerous ponds in the forest, and streams run along every footpath. When you look through the trees, a darkness seems to obscure the path ahead, so you must watch every step, to be sure you don't fall in any streams. Once you wander into the forest, you are ensnared by the gnomish magic that enchants the place, and you may well never find your way out for years. There are berry bushes at every step, and if you stray off the path, you will have trouble pushing through all the heavy fruit bushes.
Fauna & Flora
There are few creatures in Red Forest, and you won't see anything other than squirrels, deer, and rabbits. The squirrels are smaller than usual, bred by the gnomes to be gnomish in size, and the deer and rabbits are small as well. All the fruit bushes in Red Forest are always covered in big, juicy fruit. Winter never touches Red Forest, it is perpetually summer there. At night, the trees glow a sinister red, and the ponds shine with an otherworldly light. Even the animals have a faint radiance about them, as if the moon has cloaked them in its light. Gnomes live in the Red Forest, but are rarely seen, choosing instead to remain invisible, in order to further their ability to play tricks on travelers. They live under the ground, and sometimes an unlucky adventurer trapped in the forest may find an entrance to one of their houses. Though it is unlikely anyone in the forest will escape its clutches, if anyone ever ventures into the gnomes houses, they will surely never leave.
Natural Resources
Nobody has ever dared try to cut a tree in the Red Forest, as they are protected by the gnomes. If anyone ever tries, the tree shall let out a fearsome shriek, and the gnomes shall curse the unlucky traveler. The fruit on the bushes, however, is free to all, and often sustains those who become trapped in Red Forest. When eaten, the fruit has a calming effect on the animals and travelers, and slows down their aging, making them able to live longer.
