Elven Spidersilk; A closely guarded secret

Elven spidersilk is very rare, and only the most noble of elves has access to it. It is a light, shimmering cloth, and feels like a soft breeze against your skin. In elven lands, spidersilk cloth is considered to be a royal luxury, and almost the only people with access to it are the kings and queens of elves.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Spidersilk clothes have the appearance of a rainbow woven into silk. Spidersilk is smooth and shiny, and sparkles with a million colors. However, in a dark room spidersilk appears to be colorless. It obtains its color by capturing light in its strands and reflecting the light back again.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Spidersilk is cool to the touch, and feels as though it is made out of clouds, it is so light. The material is light yet durable, and can protect the wearer from a sharp knife, but not a sword. It is especially resistant to magical attacks, thus many powerful wizards seek the friendship of the elves, so they can gain access to this marvelous material.

Compounds

The only use of spidersilk is for cloth, and no elf has ever tried to use it in anything else.

Geology & Geography

The particular type of spidersilk which the elves use is found in the webs of the large forest spiders, which are very rare. The forest spiders live in deep parts of forests or ravines, and thus are very hard to find. If an elf finds these rare creatures, however, he will immediately set up a small village there, and over time elves will come to live there. In this way, many of the largest elven cities are built near silk spiders, and the kings and queens of the elves will not live anywhere there are no silk spiders. Silk spiders are considered to bring luck to elves living nearby, and their silk, if spun from pure spidersilk, with no other material mixed in, is believed to grant the wearer special magic powers. Spidersilk is often used in the most powerful of invisibility cloaks, as it has the peculiar property of hiding the wearer from danger.
Odor
Spidersilk smells faintly of pine trees, as that is how the silk spiders smell.
Color
Spidersilk is constantly changing color, so it is a veritable rainbow f
o hues.
