Mechanical Quill

The Gonndoth Gnomes of the Elendoran Mountains have created a magnificent device that many in the academic field. The device is simple looking but extremely complex in its function. It appears as a quill attached to a metallic arm with a rather large base. The base of the device is where the true magic lies. When crafted, a skilled magic-user casts a variation of Inscription on the base of the machine. This spell will imbue a copy of any document the base is set upon. The imbued copy will then find its way through the arm of the device and the attached quill will start to write down an exact copy of whatever the base of the machine is sat on. The quick and exact copies that the machine creates let the Gnomes make duplicate pages of their findings automatically, allowing them to continue their work uninterrupted. Librarians and other academics seek out these devices to ensure that copies of great works can be made and disseminated to as many people as possible while leaving the original intact and free of overuse. The Gonndoth have had no issue parting with the extra mechanical quills made because most believe that the more knowledge spread throughout Eraterna, the better.

These machines are difficult to make. Not only is the spell required to make the base of the machine operate a very specific form of the Inscription spell, the mechanics behind the arm and attached quill are so intricate that many with larger hands than the Gonndoth Gnomes have extreme difficulty even repairing the device when one breaks. The Gnomish people try to make as many mechanical quills as possible because they think that more documents and books created will help the world, but even still, the mechanical quill is a rare sight due to its complex creation process.
