Half-Orcs

Rugged, brutish and fierce though the Orcs may be, these warriors from across the sea are not merely inhuman monsters, as the existence of Half-Orcs attest. Though some are born from violence, many others are the product of bonds forged in the harsh landscapes of the Midkingdoms and other lands of Eramon. Half-Orcs are often the child of a human parent, but sometimes crossbreeds between Orcs and Elves, Dwarves and others come into existence.   Regardless of their parentage, they inherit the broad, tough physicality of their Orcish side softened and shaped by their other parentage. Orc culture is hard on these; though the ever-opportunistic Orcs look favorably on any talents or advantages perceived or real that the Half-Orc might develop due to their heritage, they're also likely to consider them scrawny and soft and needing more of a kicking around to be useful. A Half-Orc has to work twice as hard to prove herself or himself in an Orc settlement as a fullblood, and no Half-Orc is ever truly allowed to forget it.    Among Human and other communities the distrust and intolerance can be even greater, as many fear Orcs as violent savages or cruel invaders and find the thought of interbreeding with them distasteful at best and intolerable at worst. Half-Orcs, like Half-Elves, Tieflings, Genasi and others, have a hard slog against prejudice throughout their lives, and many end up leaning into the stereotypes to become mercenaries, assassins, thugs, or pirates, whilst others struggle to differentiate themselves from the image painted by their faces and forms. Those who succeed in rising above, however, may just find themselves capable of great things indeed...
