Myth

A myth about a mountain, lake, cave or other landmark

it's said that the cave is made by aliens and that there is proof of tool usage everywhere. A few avid and well-paid explorers have tried to debunk (in fact tried to find proof) and failed in both cases. Only the large area is laser scanned, mapped and nothing unusual has been discovered.

Almost the day the cave was found, people started inventing stories about them. Most of them where utter rubbish, but one myth kept returning... it's there and as a mYth it is very resilient. The focus of the myth has slowly changed over time to the huge pile of rocks in the back and riches beyond imagination. Removing the rocks is, however, quite a task and currently way too expensive.

It is unclear where the rumour originated or why people would think there is actually something under or behind the stones. new plans are bieng made to investigate beyond the rocks by Atlas Industries, An Earth governement contractor.

The people in Elysium believe in it for 50/50, ask anybody and you get as much believers as non believers. There is also no difference between the rich or poor in these numbers.

Variations & Mutation

The variations can be found in what people think to find. Some believe ancient technology left behind by aliens, some believe proof that earth people did live here on Mars. Some believe its simple and 'just water'. The latter groups is rather small, because the only water found is 600m below the surface. It can be extracte from the air, but that's a slow process.

Cultural Reception

Believers are pointing out the myth. The non believers don't even think about it, for them its just a bunch of rocks, rocks are rather large ones at that and not significant at all. They think also that the believers are wishfull thinkers without any scientific proof.

There is one song about fools. if you listen well there are some references to foolish people that will find nothing but dust. Its a quite popular song.
